Dream big, have a goal, form a plan, take action! If you want to change your life, become an entrepreneur!
According to the Centre for Entrepreneurs, there were 52,000 more companies created in 2016 than there were in 2015 in the UK alone and although statistics dipped slightly in 2017, there is still a marked increase in entrepreneurs over the past 3 years. This not only shows that entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly popular but also shows how successful being an entrepreneur can be in hand with a greater access to the opportunities that the World now offers us all! If 52,000 people can do it, why can’t you? You and thousands of people can take the first step to an elevated and from my experience a more fulfilling life.
Change is never easy, and statistics don’t show everything, so it would be naive to think that you can just transform your life overnight. Like with every job, there are positives and negatives to being an entrepreneur and you will have to weather both the highs and lows if you want to break out of your current career and make the move into the business world.
The Downsides As we know, nothing interesting is ever completely one-sided, to address the sharper side of the sword. Often the first challenge can be finding the guts to make the leap through all your doubts, with the lingering uncertainty, to keep growing your idea. Finding this bravery is is the first step that so many don’t take, or are in fact stopped at the first hurdle, learning to fail upwards is a particular challenge.
Being an entrepreneur can make you acutely aware of your failings, in a way which you would never otherwise experience, particularly if you start out on your own without a well rounded team, needing to effectively hold every position in the company perhaps accounting is not your strong suit? Well you’d better learn! Other challenges are common but seem to me to be intensified such as being unable to draw the line between home and work life, this can also seep into finances.
By and large Entrepreneurship is not a quick money maker and it often takes a while to find out if your business is viable, let alone to start making money from it, every aspect of your life will be affected, whether it be due to finances, your schedule or the emotional turmoil as a consequence of acute stress. After all of this sacrifice statistics suggest that only have a 50% chance of success.
The Upsides The reason so many people want to be an entrepreneur is obvious, you are boundless, with total freedom. On one side of the coin ultimate risk the other ultimate success. Setting your own goals, reaching not for but beyond the sky, remembering the footsteps on the moon. You can work for passion, for money, or love, anything at all! Set your own goals, have your own vision and mind-set.
Is It Worth It? Entrepreneurs are always asked whether it was all worth it. The answer to this question is as subjective as the individual. Successful Entrepreneurs will always evangelize the virtues as I do, but failure can take a terrible toll, it’s for you to weigh up the pros and cons. After all, you will never know if you don’t try, I believe that is the ultimate failure!
